Cleaning Timber in Nottingham

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

You’ll have heard this age-old conundrum.

Here’s another one to ponder, fresh from the work logs (pardon the pun) of Pristine Commercial Cleaning Services: “If dirty timber is sent to the EU, will it be allowed in?”

The quick answer is ‘no’.

EU laws regulate many things, including the importation of wood to Europe. There are strict rules concerning the origin of all timber sent to the EU, as well as how clean the timber should be before it’s shipped there.

By EU law, timber that the UK imports must be moss and bacteria-free, to eliminate the risk of any rogue micro-organisms setting up home and/or reacting to microscopic entities on the continent.

This particular directive saw SR Timber, of Sutton-in-Ashfield near Nottingham, contact Pristine Commercial Cleaning Services Ltd for their steam cleaning prowess. Pristine carried out the project at Goole Docks, before the timber was shipped to Europe.

Using their powerful DOFF steam cleaning system they blasted bugs, moss and bacteria from hundreds of timber planks without damage to the wood. The DOFF system heats water to 150 degrees Celsius, which effectively sterilises the surfaces it treats.

The end result: no bacteria left on the timber to enjoy any fun in the sun.
